The Club America vs Cruz Azul ‘Clasico Joven’ will take place this Saturday, April 5, 2014 (4:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Azteca. The ‘aguilas’ and ‘cementeros’ face-off in the must-watch game during Week 14 of the Clausura 2014. This match involves a great Mexico City rivalry, apart from being two of the best teams in the Liga MX.

The team coached by Antonio Mohamed won more than 3 points last weekend when they defeated a weak Chivas 4-0 in the ‘Clasico Nacional’. With that win, Club America gained a much needed momentum, plus a boost in their morale. This Saturday, they will host the league’s best team in Cruz Azul; an opponent which they have much respect for, but one which they also are forbidden to lose against.

The team from ‘coapa’ needs the three points at the Azteca stadium, as a win could place them in 3rd place with 23 points. More than a top 4 table position, America needs another win against another top rival to demonstrate that they are improving under the command of ‘Turco’ Mohamed. The Argentine coach has had many critics regarding his work with America, therefore a win against the ‘cementeros’ may be a sign that the team is improving right in time just before the playoffs.

Cruz Azul faces a tough visit into the Coloso de Santa Ursula this Saturday as they face a tough team, but most importantly, because they may play with a semi-alternate team. The team coached by Luis Fernando Tena is in a tough situation as next Wednesday they host Xolos of Tijuana in the second-leg semifinal of the CONCACAF Champions League which they are losing 0-1. That tournament is of high importance for the ‘cementeros’, therefore it is important for Tena to rest some players this weekend.

‘La Maquina’ has been the best performing team thus far after 13 games in the Clausura 2014. They lead the league with 29 points, and have the best defense and the 3rd best offense. Cruz Azul is almost secured to have a playoff seed, while their goal is to finish first in the standings to obtain home advantage in the ‘liguilla’. Toluca lost earlier on Friday against Xolos, therefore a loss against America will still keep them in the top position.

Club America vs Cruz Azul Prediction

The America vs Cruz Azul ‘classic’ will be a very good game which will be played offensively by the ‘aguilas’, and on the counter-attack by the ‘cementeros’. Club America wants to win their second rivalry game in two weeks, while the three points are also very significant in their attempt to reach the playoffs in one of the top 4 seeds. Cruz Azul may use an alternate team as they will host Xolos in a mid-week Concachampions semifinal, therefore that gives America the upper-hand. In a good game, the America vs Cruz Azul game will end in a 2-1 win for the team from ‘coapa’.
