The Club America vs Santos Liga MX match will take place this Saturday, March 8, 2014 (3:00 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. America will be looking to add back-to-back wins, after it defeated Monterrey last week, while Santos will be looking for its first away win of the season. Both teams have been inconsistent this season, so it will be interesting to see who comes out with the three points.
Club America currently sit in fourth place with 15 points, after starting out the season winning four out of five matches, Turco Mohamed’s team took a stumble and lost three in a row. Finally, Turco was able to stop the negative streak by earning a 2-1 victory at Monterrey last weekend.
Turco will once again be able to count with Maza Rodriguez and Aquivaldo Mosquera, although Miguel Layun will be out due to injury. Club America’s defense has been decent, having allowed eight goals through nine matches, however, their offense has been lacking, with just ten goals in nine matches. Turco needs to find a way to get his team’s offensive motor going, although it might be difficult, considering Luis Gabriel Rey might be unavailable due to fatigue.
Santos is having a mediocre season, having earned just 10 points through nine matches, it appears their participation in the Copa Libertadores is taking its toll on the squad. Santos has lost two Liga MX matches in a row, their defense has allowed seven goals in those two matches.
Caixinha has further distracted the team by going on a tirade against Miguel Herrera and the Mexican National Team, stating that Herrera is overworking Oribe Peralta. With Peralta having participated in Wednesday’s Mexico vs Nigeria match, where he already looked tired, it will be interesting to see if Peralta will be able to play the full match.
Club America vs Santos Prediction
Both teams have been inconsistent all season long, so it’s hard to determine whether either team will play as good as it is capable of. Santos is on a bit of a downward slide, while Club America looked decent against Monterrey last week. It will all come down to whether Santos’ leaky defense can stop Raul Jimenez, who has scored three goals this season.
The Club America vs Santos match will be a back-and-forth game, as both teams need to win. Santos will likely fall back to counterattack, leaving Club America to control the ball. The match will end in a 2-1 victory for Club America, and we will see Santos continue its losing streak.
