Sport Witness is reporting that Real Madrid have agreed to sell young striker Alvaro Morata to Arsenal for a fee of around 18 million pounds. Arsenal failed to sign him in the January transfer window, but it looks as though at season’s end Morata will be heading to North London.
Morata has been with Real Madrid since the age of 16, but his opportunities in Carlo Ancelotti’s team are few and far between this season. The likes of Benzema and even Jese Rodriguez are ahead of Morata and this move looks good for the youngster.
Arsene Wenger is known for buying young talents and developing them and this looks like another one of those moves. Morata looks like a solid player and has done well when given the chance at The Bernabeu.
Arsenal have lacked depth in the striker position all season and it is starting to show. Giroud has had to play a lot and the fatigue is showing here as the season winds down. Podolski has been injured and finally back, and Arsenal did play Yaya Sanogo up top against Bayern as well.
Arsenal are still well in the title race as the final stretch nears, but it may be the lack of a center forward that ultimately costs them. Morata will improve the depth and quality of the team next year, but it will be interesting to see if Morata’s game can translate to goals in the English Premier League.
