According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the Reds are lining up an ambitious move for Real Madrid striker Kareem Benzema. Manager Brendan Rodgers is excited by the prospect of pairing up Benzema with Suarez and Sturridge next season, should they finish in the top four.

The French international, since joining the Madrid outfit in the summer of 2009, has failed to win over the respect of the supporters at the Bernabeu. His scoring form has not improved despite the fact that Madrid sold striker Gonzalo Higuain to Italian side Napoli last summer, in a bid to make Benzema their main striker.

As such, he could be set for a move away from the Spanish capital with the premier league being his preferred choice.

A deal for the former Lyon man would most likely cost the Anfield club a fee slightly in excess of £25M. Although Liverpool may face stiff competition from rivals Arsenal and Manchester City for the centre-forward, an attractive proposal may see the 26-year old join the Merseyside club.

Liverpool, currently in fourth place with 56 points and 11 more games till season’s end, will be looking to display a good run of form even as they hope to qualify for the Champions league for the first time since 2009.
