The Peñarol vs Santos Laguna Copa Libertadores match will take place this Tuesday, February 18, 2014 (3:15 PM Pacific) at the Estadio Centenario.  Peñarol (URU) will host Santos (MEX) in their home opener during this Libertadores tournament.  The match has the components necessary to become a great match, creating this game into one of the most anticipated in Week 2 of the tournament.

The team coached by Jorge Fossati prepared during the week for this significant match by postponing their domestic league game last weekend.  The ‘Aurinegros’ did this as they are pressured to earn the win, considering they tied against Deportivo Anzoategui (VEN) last week in their Libertadores opener. With a win, Peñarol has a chance at taking first place in Group 8 with 4 points.

Santos Laguna will possibly face their toughest visit in the group stages when they play at the historic Centenario.  The team coached by Pedro Caixinha had a weak start to their Liga MX, although as of late they have improved drastically. That Liga MX rythm needs to be transferred into the Libertadores as it will be influential at their run for a succesful tournament. Santos won last week in their opener against Arsenal de Sarandi 1-0, which has them currently in first place of the group with 3 points.

Peñarol vs Santos Laguna Prediction

The Peñarol vs Santos Laguna will be an intense match between two teams favored to win Group 8.  Santos will have a difficult game due to their 20+ hour flight to Uruguay, added to the great atmosphere the Centerario creates. Meanwhile, Peñarol is fresh as they did not play during the weekend, which will allow them to play offensively and dynamically. In a great match, the Peñarol vs Santos Laguna match will end in a 1-1 tie.
