The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFS) have released their latest world club ranking, rating Chelsea Football Club the third best club in the world. The Europa league winners sit behind Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, while boasting a second successive term as the top rated club in England.
IFFS, currently based in Lausanne, Switzerland, have their annual statistics released, where they consider the results of the past 12 months from: continental and intercontinental competitions, national league matches and national cup competitions.
Chelsea finished third in the Premier League last season, but went on to win a successive European trophy after their Munich success in 2012 Champions League final. The West London club thus gained the maximum points for a win- draw count in the past 12 months. The English Premier League is one of the elite competitions around the globe and this has hugely contributed to Chelsea’s ranking, coupled with the continued taste of success in Europe in recent years.
It cannot be forgotten though, that Chelsea was in the last four in the FA Cup last year, an impressive position considering their commitment in the league and the continental stage. Since then, the side has been taken over by a great coach, Jose Mourihno , who has taken them to the Champions league knock out stage, contributing to their overall points in the IFFS ranking.
It is good news for Chelsea, considering the position of other English teams; Tottenham Hotspur placed 7th, Arsenal wrap up the top 3 English teams at 12th position. Both Manchester clubs disappointingly failed to make it to the top ten.
