According to metro.co.uk, Colombian midfielder, Fredy Guarin is very close to signing a deal with Chelsea. Jose Mourinho sees him as an ideal player to fit in his system in the defensive midfielder spot considering Frank Lampard is not getting any younger, Michael Essien is well past his prime, and Ramires is an inconsistent player.
Guarin, valued at €18 million, is the central/defensive midfielder, who is playing a very physical brand of football. Mourinho believes that the Colombian, with his style of play, would fit nicely into the English Premier League.
He has played 17 matches in Serie A this season so far, scoring three goals and making four assists. Reportedly , Guarin has already said goodbye to his fellow Inter colleagues, buying them all a personal tablet as a gift. Although Chelsea’s first inquiry was only made in order to find out how much money would Inter ask for Guarin, the negotiations have gone in a completely different direction.
In this deal, Inter will look onto signing Chelsea’s attacker Demba Ba, who is the 3rd option for Mourinho in the attack, but, nevertheless, the first two options, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o, aren’t producing well at the moment. Chelsea would also like to cut the transfer fee on Guarin, so it is possible that Ba will go to Milan as a part of the deal.
And it does not end there – one part of this deal could be even Andrea Ranocchia, who is currently back at the packing order at Inter, he is unsettled, and could leave Inter in the near future. Chelsea would be a fine destination for the 25-year-old defender, since Mourinho could possibly offload David Luiz, so the Italian could be a perfect fit for Chelsea’s squad. Ranocchia played 13 games for Inter in the Serie A this season, and he scored one goal.
