The Bayern Munich vs Manchester City Champions League match will take place this Tuesday, December 10, 2013 (11:45 AM Pacific) at the Allianz Arena. These two teams qualified easily to the next round of Champions League, with a huge gap between them and the third placed team, CSKA Moscow. This is the final match in the group phase which will decide which team will be first placed, and get an easier opponent in the first knockout round. Manchester City needs to win by a three goal margin, since they lost the first match 1-3.
Manchester City is traveling to Munich to face the reigning Champions League title holders after a disappointing draw with Southampton last Saturday, in the Premier League match. City is struggling to find form away from their Etihad stadium, with only two wins in eight matches in the Premier League. However, their away form did not affect their Champions League campaign, since they have won both of their away matches so far, against CSKA Moscow and Victoria Plzen. Of course, taking down the reigning champions, and arguably the best team in the world, will be a whole different story for them.
Bayern Munich, on the other hand, is playing in a great form at the moment. They have won eleven games in a row in all competitions, and haven’t lost a single match this whole season, drawing only three times. In their last match, they devastated Werder in Bremen 0-7, and clearly they are an intimidating opponent for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
Manchester City will be left without the help of Yaya Toure; the hard working midfielder is suspended due to three yellow cards. David Silva could return after his injury, but it is unlikely that Manchester City coach Pellegrini would risk him getting injured again in this match, considering the City derby Premier League match against Arsenal is to take place next weekend. Joe Hart will return to his goalkeeper position. Jovetic and Nastasic won’t play either, due to their long term injuries.
Arjen Robben injured his knee in the Bundesliga match against Augsburg, and will be out of action for this match. Philip Lahm will probably return to the starting lineup, after resting against Werder Bremen. Other long term injured players in Bayern squad are Badstuber, Schweinsteiger, Pizarro and Shaqiri, and they won’t be featuring in this match either.
Bayern Munich vs Manchester City Prediction
Considering Bayern Munich monster form, and that Manchester City can only theoretically top this group (it’s hard to imagine that even they are considering beating Bayern by three goals margin at Allianz Arena), the prediction is that this match will be open, flowing, with a lot of goals scored, and the most likely outcome is a 4-2 win for Bayern.
