The Chivas vs Leon Copa MX match, which will end Group 6 play, will be held this Wednesday, September 25, 2013 (7:00 PM Pacific), at the Estadio Omnilife in Guadalajara. Leon and Chivas are tied with 13 points each in Group 6 of the Copa MX. They played each other last week at the Nou Camp and ended tied 1-1. Chivas must defeat Leon in order to move on to the quarterfinal stage of the Copa MX.
Chivas is experiencing yet another terrible season, having accumulated just seven points through 10 matches, an appearance in the Liga MX playoffs reduced to only a dream. The only way to salvage something out of this season would be to succeed in the Copa MX. In order to do so, Chivas must defeat Leon at the Estadio Omnilife.
Due to the fact that the Copa MX is Chivas’ only chance at redeeming itself this season (the winner of the Copa MX receives half a ticket to the Copa Libertadores), coach Ortega has decided to field a competitive squad against Leon. In last week’s Copa MX match in Leon, Chivas also used a squad with several key players. Chivas will put it all on the line in order to attempt to win a spot in the Copa MX quarterfinals.
Leon is having a fantastic run in the Liga MX, currently sitting in second place with 22 points. Even though they are using a “B” side for the Copa MX, Leon is just one tie/win away from earning a spot in the knockout round of the Copa MX. Coming out of the Estadio Omnilife with a ticket to the knockout round would be the cherry on top to an already successful season.
Coach Matosas has given no reason to expect Leon to field its main squad against Chivas this Wednesday, it appears the alternate squad will be playing.

Chivas is under a lot of pressure to come up with a win against Leon, it is the only thing left that might give this season a bit of a positive outlook. Leon, which will be using an alternate squad, will still be an extremely difficult rival, as they are currently sitting in first place in Group 6. I believe Chivas will ultimately come out with a tight victory and a ticket to the quarterfinals. Chivas will defeat Leon by a score of 2-1, and be on its way to potentially salvaging the season.
