The Chivas vs Veracruz match will be played at the Estadio Omnilife on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 (4:00 PM Pacific). This will be the first home match of the season for Chivas, and they will have a tough encounter against a Veracruz squad that is motivated and still undefeated.
Chivas avoided starting off the season with a loss when Caviedes was able to score a 91st minute goal against Jaguares to earn the 1-1 draw. The away point is not a bad result for Chivas, specially considering that they faced a Chiapas squad that is much better from what we saw in the previous season.
Chivas also has the good fortune of having several key players back from the Mexican National Team roster that participated in the Gold Cup: Rafael Márquez Lugo, Marco Fabián, and Miguel Ponce. These three players are important additions to the team, and will definitely add badly needed offensive firepower, which was lacking in the game against Chiapas.
Unfortunately, Jorge Enríquez injured himself in the Gold Cup, and will be out for a couple of weeks. Nonetheless, the Chivas squad that will play at the Estadio Omnilife against Veracruz will be nearly full strength.
Veracruz started off the season with a 2-2 draw against Chiapas, and followed that up with a 4-2 away win over Atlante. For a team that has been predicted to be fighting against relegation, four points in two matches is not a bad start.
Offensive midfielder Angel Reyna, the main reinforcement for the Tiburones, has been a key component in the success of his team. Reyna has scored 4 goals, and has basically been involved in nearly every offensive play his team has created. If Chivas want to defeat Veracruz, they will have to shut Reyna down.
