The Bayern Munich vs Barcelona friendly match will be this Wednesday July 24, 2013 (9:30 AM Pacific) at the Allianz Arena. Barcelona will look to get some revenge on Bayern Munich after their embarrassing performance in this years Champions League where they lost by an aggregate score of 7-0. Despite being a friendly game the intensity of this game will certainly be high as Barcelona will look to step away from the shadows and prove that last years match was just a fluke.
This will be Pep Guardiola’s first match against his former club. After stepping away from the game for a season, Pep Guardiola has returned to the sidelines to coach a Bayern Munich club that ended last season by winning the most prestigious European title; the Champions League. Bayern comes into the match in great form, after 6 pre-season matches they come into the match having won all six matches. They have only allowed 1 goal while scoring 35 goals. This will be a warm-up match for Bayern as they prepare for Saturdays match agaisnt Borussia Dortmund for the German Super Cup. Bayern will be using quite a bit of their starters in order to maintain this form.
Barcelona on the other hand will enter this match with quite a bit of second stringers. After having lost the first game Barcelona will certainly come out firing in this game. Despite the players saying this is just another regular game we will see that the intensity of this game will be high, as Barcelona will look to get their revenge on that pathetic 7-0 aggregate score that we experienced in this years Champions League. Players from Confederations Cup will not be playing this game which will leave the talents of Xavi, Iniesta, Neymar, along with others out on this match. This will make it an uphill battle for Barcelona to overcome as Bayern will be using a lot of their firepower against this team.
Bayern Munich vs Barcelona – Prediction
Even though we will probably see Lionel Messi in the field for at least a half, I believe that the absence of Xavi, Iniesta, and Fabregas in their midfield will cause Barcelona to lose this match. Barcelona also lost Thiago Alcantara to Bayern and he will probably also face his former club and showcase his skills to Pep Guardiola once again. Guardiola is aware of the talents that Alcatara brings which is why he has brought him over to Bayern, At the end I think that the threat the Robben, Ribery, and Muller pose will be too much for Barcelona’s second string young defense to handle. Bayern Munich will deliver another blow to Barcelona by winning 3-1.
