The Queretaro vs Morelia Liga MX match will kick-off the Apertura 2013 this Friday, July 19, 2013 (5:30 PM Pacific) at the Estadio La Corregidora in Queretaro.  Fans have waited almost two months to view another official Liga MX match since the incredible Clausura 2013 final where Club America were crowned champions over Cruz Azul.  On Friday, Queretaro and Monarcas Morelia meet in what will serve to understand in what form these teams are in.

The ‘Corregidora’ stadium will be witness to the start of the Apertura 2013 of the Liga MX.  This will be the 3rd season played since the league changed its name to Liga MX, and the 1st with their new sponsor; BBVA Bancomer.  On Friday night, both squads will attempt to begin the Apertura 2013 on the right foot, considering the competitiveness in the league will be extremely high.

The team coached by Nacho Ambriz is in a completely different atmosphere, as opposed to the start of the Clausura 2013.  In the last tournament, Queretaro was in last place of the relegation table, and as favorites to lose, they were “relegated”.  They remained in the first division after buying the rights to Jaguares de Chiapas; meaning, not only did they remain in the league, but they also took their place in the relegation table.  At the beginning of the Apertura 2013, Gallos Blancos is in 12th place of relegation, where only a couple of disastrous seasons will demote them to the Ascenso MX.

Apart from remaining in the league, and from buying a nice spot in the relegation standings, Queretaro was also able to keep the majority of their players from last season, plus a few more from Jaguares.  That will allow coach Ambriz to have good internal competitiveness as there are more than 11 players who will be fighting for a starting position.  Queretaro also acquired good players in the transfer season like Leandro Gracian, Esteban Paredes, and Luis Perez.  Queretaro has a deep and talented squad who will compete not to remain in the first division, but to play in the playoffs.

Monarcas Morelia has been a consistent performer at the league’s playoffs.  This is a team that has succeeded by keeping the base of the squad intact, just as they did for the new season.  There were some player transfers this off-season however, where the main changes were in offense; especially with the departure of top offensive winger, Joao Rojas to Cruz Azul.  His departure will be greatly missed as the Jefferson Montero-Joao Rojas duo was arguably the quickest and best in the Liga MX.  To fill that hole, the team coached by Carlos Bustos acquired 22 year old Juan Govea.

Queretaro vs Morelia Prediction

The Queretaro vs Morelia match will set the tone for the start of the Apertura 2013.  This will be a tough game between two opponents who could appear in this season’s playoffs.  The biggest question is in what form both clubs will play with.  Friday night will have two squads who will play offensively, but not outstanding.  Monarcas will need some time to accomodate to a system non-dependant on Joao Rojas, while the Queretaro players will have problems trying to understant how to play in a team with “two teams”.  The Queretaro vs Morelia  match will end in a 1-1 tie.
