The Atletico Nacional vs Independiente Santa Fe Liga Postobon Final was a hard fought contest between two teams who want to add another star to their long list of titles.  The first-leg match finished in a poor 0-0 tie, which means everything will be decided in Santa Fe’s home stadium.

Nacional is coming into this match looking for its 12th championship. In order to accomplish this there are some key things that must happen. For starters Macnelly Torres must control the midfield like he has done for the Colombian national team. During the season he was very inconsistent for Nacional which is part of the reason why this team went through such a roller coaster in order to reach these finals. When he is delivering the ball with confidence he becomes an unbelievable play-maker which makes this team dangerous offensively. On defensive side of the ball Nacional must continue to be solid and players like Alejandro Bernal must keep Santa Fe’s attackers contained. Juan Pablo Angel who will be the oldest player to dispute a final for Nacional at 37 years of age and he will look to make an impact and score like he did back in the 1994 final when Nacional defeated Millonarios. After coming to Nacional for a second stint he will look to solidify his spot as one of the legends for this club.

On the other hand we have Santa Fe who will enter the match as the favorites to win the tittle. After a heartbreaking exit in the Copa Libertadores Santa Fe will look to bounce back and take their frustration out on Nacional and crown themselves champions for the 8th time. Santa Fe is a well balanced team who showed dominance throughout the whole season. After crowning themselves champions this core of players will look to be glorious yet again. They are lead by a very dangerous striker by the name of Wilder Medina which will be playing his final 180 minutes for this club; the forward is set to exit the club and join Barcelona of Ecuador next season. Nacional’s defense will have their hands full when Medina along with Santa Fe’s captain Omar Perez pair up. Perez has brought a lot of success to this club since joining in 2009, the Argentinian is now the captain of the team and he will be looking to give Santa Fe their 2nd title in 2 seasons.

Nacional vs Santa Fe Final 2013 (First Leg) Prediction

Although Santa Fe enters the game as the favorite I believe it will be Nacional who prevails at home by the score of 2-1. This should be an evenly paired match filled with emotion. Look for Juan Pablo Angel to lead his young teammates and inspire them to join the great teams in Nacional’s history.
