The ‘Federacion Mexicana de Futbol’ (FMF) announced the roster which the Mexican national team will use in the friendly against Nigeria, the CONCACAF qualifiers against Jamaica, Panama, and Costa Rica, and for the Confederations Cup in Brazil.
The list includes 6 players that play in Europe, whose biggest absence is once again Carlos Vela. It is believed Vela was not called-up due to his involvement with his team, Real Sociedad, in their goal of finishing 4th in La Liga, and qualifying into next year’s Champions League. If Vela had been called, he would have missed his team’s last crucial game of the season.
The team led by coach Jose Manuel de la Torre will play a friendly against Nigeria on May 31 in Houston, Texas; afterwards, they face 3 significant World Cup qualifying matches the 4th, 7th, and 11th of June against Jamaica, Panama, and Costa Rica. Lastly, this same group will travel to Brazil to play in the prestigious Confederations Cup from June 15 to June 30. In that competition they were located in Group A where they will face Brazil, Italy, and Japan. Group B is made of Tahiti, Spain, Uruguay, and Nigeria.
