Honduras vs USA 2 – 1, February 6, 2013 Highlights

The first game of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers in the USA vs Honduras 2013 match left many doubts.  With the 2-1 win by the home team in San Pedro Sula, the question arises if Honduras is a clear candidate for one of the top 3 spots which qualify directly to Brazil 2014.  Honduras played a smart game, they were good defensively, but their real strength was in the midfield as they disabled any American offensive pressure.  Also, the first Honduran goal was a phenomenal bicycle kick by Juan Garcia who may as well win the best goal in these qualifiers.

The other doubt this game left is if the United States have enough to be a World Cup team.  Forget about their elitism in the CONCACAF, but do they have the talent and quality to be in next year’s tournament.  After today’s showing, the USMNT is weak, in poor form, has bad coaching, and they simply miss a go-to player like they had in Landon Donovan.  Jurgen Klinsmann is officially on a loose cord, and if they cannot obtain a victory next month against Costa Rica, expect the German to be on his way out.

Notes: Clint Dempsey (USA-36′), Juan Garcia (HON-40′), Jerry Bengston (HON-79,)

Final Score: Honduras 2-1 USA
