Chivas of Guadalajara played their first game of the Clausura 2013 of the Liga MX against last season’s 2nd place team Toluca at the Estadio Omnilife in a match that ended 1-1. There was much controversy as well as speculation against Chivas because just three days ago the team’s owner made a last minute coaching staff change by firing John Van’t Schip and signing Benjamin Galindo. To their good luck, Toluca played a very defensive game, in part because Antonio Naelson Sinha was out with an injury. The first 45 minutes of the match went by with few scoring opportunities on either side. It would not be until the 2nd half that Chivas began to attack and have possession of the ball, but a defensive mistake in the 83rd minute led to a Lucas Silva goal for the 1-0 lead in favor of Toluca. Shortly after in the 85th minute, Chivas took advantage of a good attack on the wing by Jesus Sanchez and with the assist of Erick Torres Chivas tied the game with a goal by debutant Miguel Sabah. The Chivas vs Toluca 2013 game would end 1-1, but not before a red card against Sabah in the last minute of play time.
