The Monterrey vs Tigres match, the ‘Clasico Regio’, will be played on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 9:00 PM EDT at the Estadio Tecnologico. This clasico, is second only to the Chivas vs America rivalry, and is without a doubt a match that paralyzes Monterrey. Will this match end with Tigres’ elimination from any playoff hopes?

Monterrey needs a win to stay in the playoff race

Monterrey has earned 21 points and finds itself in the 7th place of the standings, although it does have an extra game at hand. A win over Tigres would put Monterrey just one more win away from a guaranteed playoff spot (with two more games left to play). Not only is the win necessary for the playoffs, but winning the clasico regio in front of its home crowd is another huge incentive.

Monterrey has been mediocre this entire season, playing one good game one week, and then losing the next week after a bad showing. However, they still have a great squad and a very good shot at making the playoffs. All Vucetich needs to do is get his team into the playoffs, and we all know very well, that any team has a shot at the title in the playoffs.

Tuca’s team has been struggling

Tigres are on the edge of elimination, with just 17 points earned, and located in 14th place of the standings. Basically, Tigres would need to win its last two matches, and hope for several results to go their way; a loss against Monterrey eliminates them. Tuca’s squad has simply been too inconsistent all season long.

Lets face it, even if Tigres were to defeat Monterrey, their chances at a playoff appearance are slim at best; by all means, this season is over for Tigres. However, what best way to end a season than with an away win against arch-rival Monterrey? Tuca will surely use this angle to motivate his players during the clasico regio.

Prediction: The Monterrey vs Tigres match will be a contested affair, and the crowd will be going absolutely nuts during this derby. Monterrey and Tigres have both been inconsistent all season long, there really isn’t a clear winner for this match. The Monterrey vs Tigres derby will end in a 2-2 draw that pus Monterrey very close to a playoff spot.

Television: The Monterrey vs Tigres game will be televised on Univision Deportes on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 9:00 PM EDT.
