The America vs Leon match will be played at the Estadio Azteca this Saturday, October 20, 2o12 at 6:00 PM EDT. In what is expected to be the match of the week, we will get to see a surprising Leon face off against the always-dangerous Club America. Leon was expected to be concerned with the relegation battle, but has instead wowed the nation and been on top of the Liga MX standings for most of the season. Can Club America and Herrera slow down a red-hot Leon?

Club America needs a win

America is coming off a tough 1-3 loss against arch-rival Chivas (America rescheduled its Week 13 match against Puebla to October 25). Club America has fallen all the way down to the 8th spot of the standings with 18 points. If America draws or loses, it could risk falling out of the playoff spots; though it still has an extra game at hand.

Herrera made good use of the extra week off, as he will have full use of all of his key players. America will need to play at a top level if it wants to defeat what is arguably the hottest team in the Liga MX (also, America hasn’t won at home since September 15 against Santos). Will Herrera finally deliver a home victory for the America faithful?

Leon – hottest team in the Liga MX

Leon is undefeated in its last five matches, and has won three of those last five. They weren’t easy victories either: Monterrey, Pumas, and Tigres. Leon has proven to be a fiery opponent at home, but in away matches it has proven to be less potent. Out of six away matches so far, Leon has won just two, tied three and lost one. These numbers are by no means bad, but they certainly aren’t as good as the outstanding home results Leon has achieved.

A win against Club America would place Leon with one foot inside the playoffs, and very close to a Copa Libertadores berth. Matosas is certainly aware of this, and will surely use it in his favor to motivate his squad. Possible playoffs and Libertadores in the very first year in the top division? Boy, I bet Matosas is very glad Queretaro released him for apparently no reason a year ago.

Prediction: The America vs Leon match will be a highly offensive game with many scoring opportunities. Herrera tends to play in an offensive formation when America plays at home, always in search for the home win. Matosas has never shied away from the attacking style, no matter what stadium he’s in, El Azteca will not be different. Many attacks, and many goals will come out of this, but the end result in the America vs Leon match will be a 2-2 draw. A good result for Leon, and not-so good for America, which will start to fall behind.

Television: The America vs Leon match will be televised on Univision this Saturday, October 20, 2o12 at 6:00 PM EDT.
