Queretaro has now lost three games in a row, the last a 4-1 trouncing at the hands of league-leading Toluca. Queretaro is the only Liga MX team that has not won a game, and currently finds itself with just two points after 11 games. About the only good thing going for Queretaro this season, is that Atlas, the other relegation candidate, has also been having a terrible season, and are just three points away in the relegation table. Everything else is bad, worst offense, worst defense, last place in the standings.
Santos had a bit of a rough start, but it appears to be approaching last season’s level of play, perfect timing! They have gone on a three game undefeated streak, and have won their previous two games. Now they have 18 points and are located in 5th place of the standings, prime candidates for yet another playoff berth, and a chance to defend their championship.
Santos has been fortunate that they were scheduled three very weak teams in a row: Atlante (win), Atlas (win), and now Queretaro (probably another win). However, after that, they get to host Xolos, one of the strongest teams in the Liga MX. Then Toluca, Monterrey, Cruz Azul and Morelia; the last five games of the season will be very tough for Santos. Essentially, if Santos wants to avoid must-win matches against the following tough opponents, it must defeat Queretaro and get three easy points that will help build a cushion in the standings.
Prediction: The Queretaro vs Santos match will be yet another loss for the home fans (have to give props to those who keep going). Queretaro has been awful all season, and they have done nothing recently to show otherwise, they may even be getting worse. Santos has won two in a row and has looked well, another win against the weakest team in the Liga MX is all but certain. The Queretaro vs Santos match will end in a 0-2 victory for Santos. This will help Santos lock up a spot in the playoffs.
