Efrain Juarez to Club America after two disastrous years in Europe. The quick right defensive winger has been sent away from F.C. Celtic to Mexico’s Club America in an attempt by the player to revive his career.
America adds another high rated player to try to take a title which it has not been able to since 2005 when they beat Tecos UAG. With the acquisition of Juarez, added by that of Adrian Aldrete, it will be an interesting question of how the cremas will position their backline.
One possibility—although very unlikely under Miguel Herrera’s style of play—will be to play with a very defensive line of five. Under this system, he would put Aquivaldo Mosqueda in dead center-back, with young star Diego Reyes on left-center, and another young player Erik Pimentel on right-center. This is where America will have to analyze if it will trade or sell one of its various defensive wingers like Oscar Rojas, Miguel Layun, or even Paul Aguilar because there will simply not be enough field to play all of the qualified players.
By signing Aldrete, Rojas is saying good-bye to the club he has played for since his youth and professionally since 2004. Another player that may be leaving is Miguel Layun although this player than Rojas, therefore he may be used as an everyday sub. With Aldrete playing on the left defensive wing, Efrain Juarez’s status as a young star will put him on the right defensive wing to put Aguilar on the bench, or Juarez could play defensive midfield and keep Aguilar on the right wing; the latter being the most intelligent solution.
