Benitez explains what Pogba needs to do to reach Gerrard’s level

Paul Pogba delivered a fantastic performance for Manchester United this weekend against Newcastle as his side ended up winning the game 4-1.

His performances managed to earn the Frenchman comparisons to Steven Gerrard who is a Liverpool legend and regarded as one of the greatest Premier League midfielders of the past generation.

Pogba, who joined the Red Devils from Juventus last year, brilliantly set up the equalizer for Anthony Martial before getting on the score sheet himself and churning out a man of the match display.

Magpies manager Rafa Benitez, who worked with Gerrard during the peak of his career with Liverpool, believes that Pogba is a talented player though he still does have to make improvements before he can earn comparisons to the Reds legend.

“No, they’re different. Stevie was a top-class player for so many years,” he said. “He was very consistent and could make the difference in every game, with or without the ball.

“He was a top-class player. Pogba is a great player, but he still has to be consistent for years like Stevie was for 10 or 15 years.

“Pogba is not my player, so I don’t need to talk too much about him. He’s a great player, like the majority of the Manchester United players. But I’m concentrated on trying to improve my players.”
