TalkSport pundit Perry Grooves believes that Jermain Defoe will be keen to join Newcastle should be offered an opportunity.
With Sunderland relegated, Defoe will be looking for a new club to extend his stay in the Premier League and considering his vast experience as well as ability to still score goals at the highest level, he should not be short of teams wanting him.
Though the 34-year-old is a cult-hero at the Stadium of Light and played a crucial role in helping the Black Cats avoid relegation last season, leaving the club will be essential if he wishes to be a part of England’s 2018 World Cup squad.
Despite Sunderland being rooted to the bottom of the Premiership standings, Defoe has still managed to notch 14 League goals this season and has been one of the team’s better performers along with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Reports have also emerged over the past week linking Defoe with a move to Newcastle as Rafa Benitez looks to add quality to his side ahead of its return to the Premier League.
