Manchester United are ready to splash as much as £50million to secure the services of Arjen Robben, according to reports from the Metro
Manchester United fans have been left in a state of extreme excitement following Louis van Gaal’s admission that he will explore the option of bringing Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.
It remains to be seen whether van Gaal will be successful in his pursuit of Ronaldo but the Portuguese superstar is not the only established player the Dutchman is keeping an eye on and recent reports have claimed that United are considering a move for Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben as well.
Robben is reportedly unhappy at Bayern after falling out with teammate Robert Lewandowski and as a result, the 31-year old is said to be looking to leave the Allianz Arena upon the reopening of the January transfer window.
A move to United has been seen on the cards for Robben but Bayern would want a transfer fee for the winger as he still has two years remaining on his current deal with the German giants.
While it was believed that United would be able to land Robben for a fee of around £5-10million due to his advanced years, it has been claimed by the Metro that United are prepared to pay as much as £49.7million to secure the services of the Dutch international.
Splashing such an amount for a player who is 31 surely does not make financial sense but United are known to be ready to splash ridiculous amounts to sign their top targets and it remains to be seen how the story will unfold.
