Club América could get one starting winger back for the Clásico Capitalino, and may have to wait on the other.
TUDN reporter Julio Ibáñez reports that everything points to Alejandro Zendejas being available for Saturday’s match away to Pumas UNAM. Brian Rodríguez, by contrast, will be handled more slowly after his late scratch against Toluca.
Zendejas Points Toward a Return
“Todo apunta a que Alejandro Zendejas ya estará disponible después de perderse los últimos tres cotejos,” Ibáñez said on TUDN.
In other words, everything points to Zendejas being available after missing the last three matches.
Zendejas has been out since suffering a knock against Atlas on October 21. He missed the matches against Pachuca, Tijuana and Toluca, and América have never issued a medical report on the injury.
His return is still an expectation, not a confirmation. The club has said nothing, and the squad list for Saturday is the hard proof.
Brian Rodríguez on the Slower Track
For Rodríguez, Ibáñez explained what happened on Saturday and what comes next. The staff data suggested the Uruguayan was at risk of injury, so the coaches already doubted whether to play him against Toluca.
“En el calentamiento sintió una molestia y deciden que no vaya ni siquiera a la banca,” Ibáñez said. In the warmup he felt a discomfort, and they decided he would not even make the bench.
Ibáñez said the staff will now take Rodríguez’s case with more calm. There is no return date, and no medical report has been issued for him either.
The account fits what Guillermo Almada said after the 2-2 draw with Toluca: Rodríguez was in the plans, felt the problem in the warmup, and could not play. The new detail is that the doubt existed before the warmup, driven by the staff’s own data.
FutnSoccer covered the first version of this story on Saturday, when Rodríguez was reported to be rested and Óscar Perea started in his place.
What It Means for Saturday
América visit Pumas UNAM on Saturday, November 7, in Jornada 16, level on 29 points with Chivas de Guadalajara at the top of the Apertura 2026 table.
Santiago Bueno is also expected to miss the match through suspension after his red card against Toluca, although the disciplinary report has not been published.
Zendejas returning would restore one of Almada’s two starting wingers for a match América want to win to protect first place. Rodríguez’s status will be settled by the squad list later this week.
