Cruz Azul had gone three league matches without a win, with one defeat and two draws. They answered with five goals from five different players.

Palavecino finished with one goal and one assist. Montaño also scored once and set up one goal, for Campos in first half stoppage time.

The fifth goal came from the bench. González entered at halftime and scored his first Liga MX goal at 75 minutes.

2. Cruz Azul kept a rare clean sheet

The shutout was only the second clean sheet of the Apertura for Cruz Azul. Their first came in the 1-0 win over Santos Laguna in Jornada 7.

Cruz Azul had conceded 21 goals in 11 matches before Saturday. They conceded none here, and Andrés Gudiño made four saves.

Juarez still created chances. José Luis Rodríguez hit the crossbar at 41 minutes and finished with three shots on target, but scored none.

3. Juarez remain last and winless away from home

FC Juarez stayed in 18th place on four points from 12 matches. They have one win and one draw, and this was their tenth defeat.

The defeat was their sixth in six away matches in the Apertura. Juarez have taken no point on the road this tournament.

Their numbers at both ends explain the position. Juarez have scored eight goals, the fewest in the league, and conceded 31, the most in the league.

What the Result Means

Cruz Azul are level on 20 points with Chivas de Guadalajara and Queretaro. They sit four points behind leaders Club America, who have 24 points from 11 matches.

The top eight places go straight to the Liguilla quarterfinals in this tournament, with no Play-In round. Cruz Azul hold one of those places with five matchdays left.

One Jornada 12 match remains, Monterrey vs Pachuca on Sunday, October 18. Neither club can reach 20 points, so Cruz Azul’s fifth place cannot change this weekend.

FC Juarez stay last on four points from 12 matches. They are not mathematically eliminated, but they need wins quickly.
