Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane has admitted that he begged his teammate Roberto Firmino to play with one eye ahead of their 3-2 Champions League victory against French giants PSG on Tuesday.
The Reds completed an impressive victory against the French giants with Firmino managing to find the winner during stoppage-time.
There were doubts over Firmino’s availability ahead of the clash, after he suffered an eye injury while playing for his club against Tottenham last weekend.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp was even doubtful that the Brazilian would play due to the abrasion to the cornea, which he sustained as a result of a clash with Jan Vertonghen.
Mane, however, begged his attacking partner to deem himself available for the clash even if he had to play in pain.
Speaking after the win against PSG, the Senegal international Mane said as quoted by Sky Sports: “I think Bobby doesn’t need his eye to play so I told him,”
“I sent him a message on Monday saying, ‘Hey Bobby, come on, we need you’.
“You’ve all seen the ‘no look’ goals so I think he doesn’t need his eye to play. I texted him saying, ‘You don’t need your eye’.”
Liverpool’s win against PSG means that they continue their good start to the season. Klopp’s side have won their last six games in all competitions.
They are certainly looking like they will be contenders to win the Premier League this season.
After having narrowly missed out on the Champions League last season, they will also be looking to go all the way in Europe’s Premier Club competition this time around.
