Liverpool suffered their first competitive defeat of the season on Tuesday as they were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea during a Carabao Cup clash. The defeat means that Jurgen Klopp’s club are out of the Carabao Cup this season.

Despite the defeat, there is no reason for the Kop to panic. The Carabao Cup is after all a tournament which big clubs in particular have been accused of not taking seriously during recent seasons.

In addition to this, most fans with prefer a Liverpool win when they take on the Blues once again this weekend in a Premier League clash over a Carabao Cup win.

One of the promising signs which the Reds could take from the game was the performance of Fabinho. The Brazil international was handed his first competitive season under Klopp after arriving at Anfield from Monaco during the summer transfer window.

During the first-half, it was clearly easy to see why Klopp has opted not to utilize Fabinho in any games up until then. He had clearly struggled to retain possession as well as with his distribution.

However, he did improve as the game wore on and began to look more confident. Fabinho is unlikely to play against Chelsea this weekend as Klopp will likely to prefer to use either of Gini Wijnaldum or Jordan Henderson.

However fans can take comfort from the fact that Andy Robertson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were in similar positions during the early parts of their Reds careers.

Perhaps things will improve as time passes.
