This Tuesday, July 31, 2018 (5:00 PM Pacific) Club America will host Veracruz at the Estadio Azteca for a game in the second round of matches in the 2018 Apertura edition of the Copa MX. Both Teams will be looking to get their first points of the tournament and should present an exciting clash in Mexico City.

Club America will be making its debut in this competition and is likely to field an alternate side with a tough away game against Pachuca set for the weekend. Las Aguilas are coming off a 3-0 win against Atlas in Liga MX play, but are not off to the best start with a loss to Necaxa in Week 1. Miguel Herrera is not likely to use his stars like Oribe Peralta, Mateus Uribe and Guido Rodriguez.

Still, some intriguing players may feature in the encounter like Carlos Vargas, Joe Corona, Emanuel Aguilera, Diego Lainez and Henry Martin. Lainez is one of the more interesting players to watch as he is labeled as a young and promising talent, but still needs those vital minutes of play to develop. Los Azulcremas will have a very strong team and are the favorites to win the game, especially with the home-field advantage.

Veracruz is yet to win in the Liga MX and suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss against Ascenso MX side Dorados de Sinaloa in Week 1 of the Copa MX. Hibert Ruiz scored the lone goal for Los Escualos in that match and some very experienced players like Luis Miguel Noriega and Enrique Perez also featured in it. Cristian Menendez was the team captain for Guillermo Vazquez’s team in that loss, but really failed to do anything going forward.

Menendez played last Sunday against Lobos BUAP and is unlikely to start this game, instead players like Bryan Carrasco, Joe Abrigo and Wilder Cartagena could be the standouts. Los Tiburones Rojos are due for a very tough game and will need a minor miracle to get the three points from this encounter.

Prediction

Las Aguilas have the better team and will have the home-field advantage that should propel them to the three points. FutnSoccer predicts that Club America will get a comfortable 2-0 win against Veracruz at the Estadio Azteca.
