Newcastle attacker states he was delighted to move away on deadline day

Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has revealed that he was delighted to get the opportunity to link up with Fulham on transfer deadline day.

Mitrovic fell down the pecking order at the Magpies this season and as long as Rafa Benitez remains manager of the club, it is perhaps unlikely that he will ever don the first-team jersey of the Toon army ever again.

The 23-year-old Mitrovic will be looking to use his time at Fulham in order to help the Cottagers achieve their ambition of winning promotion this season.

In addition to this, he will be hoping to keep sharp ahead of the 2018 world cup where he is likely to be part of the Serbia squad.

“It was a really long and stressful day but I am here and I want to be here,” Mitrovic told Fulham’s official website as quoted by The Chronicle.

“There were a lot of clubs [interested] but I chose Fulham, first of all because of the coach and second of all because of their style of football.

“Fulham have a young and good team and they have scored a lot of goals this season and last season as well. For me, Fulham played the best football in the Championship last season and they have continued to play like that this season as well.”
