Salomon Rondon joins Newcastle United on loan deal with West Brom

This Monday, August 6, it was announced that Salomon Rondon had joined Newcastle United as part of a swap deal that sent Dwight Gayle to West Bromwich Albion. The deal is a loan set for the season as both teams look for something different on offense this season.

Gayle had struggled in the Premier League last season with only six goals, but is a proven Championship striker that should help The Baggies in England’s second-tier league. Rondon had been playing with West Brom since 2015 and could suit a team like Newcastle heading into the new season.

The Venezuelan striker managed to score 24 goals in three Premier League seasons with West Brom and will now look to stay consistent. Rondon is not the most skillful player, but he can be mobile for his size and has an impressive physical presence that can be useful for many Premier League teams.

This will be Rondon’s seventh team as he has previously played with Aragua in his native Venezuela, Las Palmas and Malaga in Spain, Rubin Kazan and Zenit in Russia, apart from West Brom. The South American forward will sport the legendary No.9 of Alan Shearer at Newcastle and raises expectations and hopes with his signing.
