Newcastle boost as £57million club record deal could see them land £32million man

As per The Sun, Newcastle have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Manchester City centre-back Eliaquim Mangala following the £57million arrival of Aymeric Laporte.

With the arrival of the club record signing, City are willing to let the 26-year-old leave on loan till the end of the campaign, and he’s not short of suitors.

West Ham are also keen on Mangala, while Valencia are looking to bring him back for another loan spell after a successful stint last term.

However, the Hammers will have to let Joe Hart go if they are to land the £32million defender as clubs aren’t allowed to have 2 players from same club on loan.

Mangala could also fancy his chances of remaining in England and moving to a side like Newcastle where he’s almost guaranteed a starting shirt.

The France international brings experience and top defensive capabilities to the table, but his wages could be an issue for the Tyneside outfit.

A centre-back isn’t top priority for the Toons given the excellent pairing of Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles, while Florian Lejeune and Chancel Mbemba also provide quality option off the bench.

It’s unknown if manager Rafa Benitez is actually keen on Mangala or if this is just another rumour.
