Allardyce reveals why Lennon’s exit could stop winger from gaining much-needed experience

Everton boss Sam Allardyce has revealed that out-of-favour winger Ademola Lookman won’t be leaving Goodison Park on loan before Wednesday deadline.

The 20-year-old has started just a league game this term, coming off the bench on 6 other occasions, and the arrival of Theo Walcott and Yannick Bolasie’s return to full fitness will see his playing time further limited.

Having earlier claimed that Lookman hardly got a look in due to his age and lack of experience, it was expected that Allardyce will sanction a loan move this month for the England youth international.

However, Big Sam recently revealed: “Lookman wouldn’t be available on loan because Aaron Lennon went a few days ago.

“We got a very good deal financially for Aaron so that was acceptable for us. That leaves anyone in that position going out on loan a no-no.”

It’s safe to say Lennon’s exit means Lookman won’t be afforded the chance to garner much-needed experience – a factor Allardyce earlier pointed out was required for him to play regularly after he was omitted from the squad that faced West Brom.

In his words: “Of course, we’ve also got Dom and Ademola but they’re at the younger end and it’s hard for those lads to play every week at this level until they gain enough experience.”
