Everton’s Coleman praises prodigious performance from new £40 million teammate

Everton veteran Seamus Coleman has heaped praise on his team-mate Richarlison. The former Brazil U-20 international scored a brace for the Toffees during the weekend as they claimed a hard-fought 2-2 draw against newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Coleman has been a key part of the Everton squad for the better part of the last ten years and during that time, he has seen many players come into and leave the squad. He also embodies the qualities of a perfect ”Evertonian” in that he is skillful, has leadership qualities and is loyal to the fans.

During the summer transfer window, the Toffees forked out £40 million to lure Richarlison to Goodisan Park and this was the highest the team paid on a single player during the recent transfer window. While the player did show signs of brilliance during the first-half of last season with Watford, he struggled for consistency during the second half of the season.

In addition to this, many Toffees fans would have naturally been a bit concerned, especially considering the bad luck which they have had in terms of new signings during the past year. Last summer saw the arrivals of Dutch international Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez at Goodisan Park.

Both players were expected to shine. Big things were expected from Klaassen after he helped Ajax to reach the final of the Europa League the season before where they lost to Manchester United. Sandro, on the other hand, was expected to fill in the void that was left by Romelu Lukaku who left the Toffees to join Manchester United last summer.

Both players turned out to be massive flops.

Richarlison’s two goals last weekend certainly proved that he has the ability to become one of the best players in the Premier League under the correct guidance.

Fans can be confident that the youngster can deliver under Marco Silva. After, all, his strong showings last season for Watford largely came while Silva was manager of the Hornets and his performances began to dip once the Portuguese coach was sacked.

Coleman is one member of the Everton squad who was not surprised at all by the performance of Richarlison.

He said as reported by the Everton website: “I was not surprised by his performance. I do not want to put too much pressure on him but he is a great lad. He does all the stuff you need to do going forward.

“But he digs in, too, and is a proper team player. I am very excited by him. He is a proper Everton player.”
