Newcastle reportedly can land top target for £20million before he is loaned out

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle’s chances of landing Leicester City striker and long-term target Islam Slimani has been dealt a huge blow, with the Foxes in talks with AS Monaco over a loan deal.

The former Premier League champions will allow the Algeria international leave for the Ligue 1 outfit if their demands of a £2.6million loan fees are met.

However, Leicester won’t hesitate to sell him to Newcastle or any other Premier League suitor if £20million is brought to the negotiations table.

Manager Rafa Benitez has had Slimani on his radar since last summer, and did revive interest in another loan deal this window.

Leicester City aren’t keen on loaning him to a domestic rival, though, and are even ready to sell him £8million short of the club record fee they splashed on him 2 summers ago.

Newcastle are ready to break the £16million club record transfer they spent on Michael Owen 12 years ago as they look to sign a striker this window, but it’s highly unlikely they go for Slimani’s signature.

The impressive goalscoring record of the 29-year-old whilst at Sporting Lisbon suggests he could deliver the goods if given adequate playing time.
