Celtic reportedly can land Champions League veteran for £2.65million this month

Celtic vs Hearts

According to French outlet butfootballclub, Celtic are keen to bring Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotić to Parkhead before the January transfer window ends.

Ligue 1 club Saint-Etienne currently lead the race to sign the 2-time Bundesliga winner, but the Hoops would only have to pay £2.65million to sign the experienced centre-back.

The 29-year-old Serbia international has been out of favour at the Bundesliga club of recent, and could move on this winter after a 10-year association with the German giants.

Subotic has played just 5 times across all competitions this season, and the arrival of Manuel Akanji from Basel further makes him more surplus to requirements.

With European wherewithal one of Celtic’s weaknesses, bringing in the Champions League finalist could help improve things at the back.

Despite just signing Marvin Compper, Subotic can help add quality depth to a rearguard that saw both Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic spend time on the injury sidelines earlier on in the season.
