Everton reportedly want to sign 24-year-old Spain international as long-term replacement for 33-year-old

According to Liverpool Echo, Everton want to sign Bayern Munich left-back Juan Bernat this month as manager Sam Allardyce looks to further strengthen his squad.

2 attackers – Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott – have already arrived during the current transfer window, and the need for reinforcements at the back has seen the club turn to the 24-year-old.

Bernat has hardly seen action this term, playing just 2 Bundesliga games thus far, and the status quo isn’t expected to change given the ever-constant top form of David Alaba.

With his World Cup chances growing slimmer by the day, the Spain international is open to an exit.

At 33, the (frequently) injured Leighton Baines is approaching the end of his career, and Bernat fits the bill as a long-term option and cover.

The highly technical former Valencia man, who arrived Germany for £8million in 2014, is also able to play in midfield and attack, and could fill in at the roles at Goodison Park if a deal is gotten over the line.

Bernat brings top quality to the table and is without a doubt an upgrade on Cuco Martina who has so far struggled in the position.
