Everton striker Cenk Tosun has admitted that his £27 million move from Besiktas to the Merseysiders earlier on this month was close to collapsing.
The 26-year-old arranged a New Year’s break trip with his girlfriend and had expected the move to go through smoothly.
However talks stalled after the clubs were unable to reach an agreement over a fee and the German-born Turkish star was ready to leave England.
An agreement was however eventually reached after Besiktas president FikretOrman held talks with the Blues chiefs and the striker eventually completed his move to Goodisan Park on January 5 for a fee of around £27 million.
“I had already planned to spend the New Year in London but the transfer took a long time, longer than expected,” he told the ECHO.
“A day or two before I was going to go back the owner called me to tell me that I should go and negotiate my terms with Everton.”
