OFFICIAL: Liverpool lose out in the race for £22 million man

Anfield

Reputable portal Goal.com have announced that Borussia Dortmund signed Basel center-half Manuel Akanji for a reported fee of around £22 million. Manchester United and Liverpool have both been chasing the player, but the German side have beaten the competition.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has serious troubles with his backline, as all of his center-backs have proved to be unreliable, including Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan, and Dejan Lovren.

The German expert already brought Southampton’ defender Virgil Van Dijk for £75 million, but it looks like he has also monitored Swiss international.

However, Dortmund have won the race after German club officially announced the signing of the highly-rated defender.

Liverpool have one of the best attacks in Europe, but their defense is the main problem, which could cost them dearly in European competition.

This is why Klopp is looking to add some additional quality to his defensive department ahead of the Champions League’ knockout stage battle against Porto.
