Newcastle boss reportedly keen on signing World Cup winner this month

According to reports, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is still keen to sign goalkeeper Pepe Reina despite having failed to sign the Spaniard during the summer transfer window.

Benitez is on the lookout to sign a new goalkeeper in order to bolster his side after both Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot have failed to deliver convincing performances during the opportunities given to them.

One of the keepers who he is keen to reunite with is Reina who he previously worked with at Liverpool as well as Napoli.

Newcastle chiefs are said to have given Benitez a budget of £10 million to spend on bolstering his side and he has reportedly also made signing a new striker a priority.

Napoli are reportedly holding out for a fee of £10 million however for Reina, and his hefty wages could also prove a problem for the cash-strapped Magpies.

Reina has extensive experience at the highest level and is a top keeper so it will be a major coup if Newcastle do manage to sign him.
