Paul Merson has warned Liverpool that they must try and find a replacement for Philippe Coutinho this month.
After month of speculation surrounding the future of the Brazilian, the Reds allowed him to earn his dream move to Barcelona in a deal worth £145 million.
The Reds themselves have been busy this month in the transfer market and have added Virgil Van Dijk to their squad as they aim to bolster their defence which was often guilty of sloppiness during the first half of the season.
There has been speculation suggesting that Liverpool could sign Leicester City star Riyadh Mahrez this month as a replacement for Coutinho rather than waiting till the summer.
Merson has urged the Reds to act fast and find a replacement for the influential Coutinho.
Writing in his column for the Daily Star, Merson said: “Liverpool must buy in this window.
“There could be uproar if they don’t. They need to replace Coutinho, but there aren’t many players with his abilities around.”
