Alan Shearer has said that it always looked as though Philippe Coutinho would end up joining Barcelona this month.
The Brazilian had hoped to join the Spanish giants during the summer transfer window when Barcelona first made their interest known but he ended up staying put at Liverpool after the Reds refused to sell at that time.
A deal worth in the region of £142 million finally took place this month and it became the second most expensive transfer in history behind only the price that PSG paid to sign Neymar from Barcelona during the summer.
As he was a key part of the first team, many Liverpool fans will be disappointed that Coutinho left the club. Shearer has however revealed that a move always looked like it would happen.
“It’s no surprise Coutinho has left,” he told bookmaker Coral.
“I said three, four months ago that when he was scoring goals there was a lack of celebration. Which told me that he was probably off in January. And that has been the case now.”
