The Daily Express has broadcasted the news from Spanish portal Diario Gol regarding Liverpool’ interest in Barcelona star Sergi Roberto.

According to the reports, Liverpool officials have tried to include the Spaniard in Coutinho’s transfer, but Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi stopped the deal.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp desperately wants to add some quality to his team this January, and it was him who wanted to bring the versatile midfielder at Anfield.

The German manager needs to add some depth to his midfield, as Emre Can is on the way out, while Jordan Henderson has some fitness issues.

Roberto can cover almost every position in the midfield, and can also operate as a right-back. During Luis Enrique’ era, he has been used as a right-back, although his primary position is a central midfielder.

Messi perhaps has more influence within Barcelona than the manager, so Barcelona will hardly sell Sergi Roberto against the Argentinean’s will.
