Newcastle reportedly interested in January swoop for FIFA Club World Cup-winning defender

As per IBT, Real Madrid right-back Achraf Hakimi is on the radar of Newcastle as manager Rafa Benitez looks to secure a loan deal until the end of the campaign for the 19-year-old.

The Spanish boss remains well-respected at the Santiago Bernabeu having managed both the youth and senior teams, and he is hoping to use his links to land the Morocco international.

The Toons have U.S international DeAndre Yedlin as their first-choice right-back, but the 24-year-old has been far from consistent this term.

Since breaking into the first team at Madrid this term, Hakimi has been a capable and trusted backup to Dani Carvajal, even featuring in both legs against Tottenham in the Champions League.

However, Los Blancos want him to go out on loan in order to gain more experience, with Real Betis and Sporting Lisbon keen.

Hakimi has already shown the type of huge potential he has since his age-grade playing days, with Spain pulling out all the stops into trying to convince him to represent his country of birth.

The teenager, who was part of the squad that recently won the FIFA Club World Cup, would be a great addition to Newcastle given his huge quality, and it would be considered a great coup if the Magpies can pull off the deal.
