Talented youngster admits he needs more experience in order to play for Newcastle

Newcastle youngster Alex Gilliead has said that Bradford City is the best place for him to be playing his football at the moment.

Gillead has been on loan with the League One club for the past 18 months. The club challenged for promotion last season and failed and once again find themselves in fifth position.

After being hampered by injuries last season, Gilliead went on to make just five league starts and five substitute appearances.

However he has shown tremendous progress this season and has gone on to start 20 out of his clubs 26 League One matches so far.

It is likely to be discovered next summer whether Rafa Benitez sees a future for Gillead at St James Park or whether he will opt to sell him.

If there is one thing that is clear however, it is that Gilliead is a player who has managed to improve and grow in confidence during his loan spell.

He said: “I feel that being here is the best place for me to be at the moment. I am enjoying playing my football, plus working with the gaffer and the lads.

“The fans have also taken to me really well. Playing virtually ninety minutes every week is massive for someone like me at my age. It is great experience for me.

“I know I still need to improve on a few things but I’m confident I can do that over the course of the next four or five months that I will be here.

“I want to add more goals and assists in my game. I feel that can come about with the more matches I play here and the more minutes I get.

“Last season I suffered a little bit with injury when I came here but this season I’m in the team and I feel like I’ve played a good part so far.”
