As per Mirror, Everton are preparing for a £50million double signing of Swansea centre-back Alfie Mawson and Watford defensive midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure before the January transfer window ends.
Manager Sam Allardyce wants to see a significant reduction in the number of goals the Toffees concede, and is keen on landing the aforementioned duo so as to improve the club’s fortunes this term and going forward.
Despite Swansea’s poor campaign, Mawson, 23, remains one of the best young defenders in the topflight, and he could help add youth, alongside vibrancy to the ageing Everton rearguard.
The £25million-rated England youth international is also attracting West Ham, but the Merseysiders are said to be favorites should the Welsh team decide to cash in.
Everton wanted Sevilla’s Steven N’zonzi as their midfield latest addition, but their hopes have been dashed as he has now returned to the La Liga outfit’s lineup, with a January exit now ruled out.
As a result, Watford’s Doucoure is seen as the perfect plan B, and the fact that he has goals in him, with 6 to his name this term, is an added advantage.
Landing both men will be a huge business done in January for Everton having already seen the attack get strengthened with the arrival of Cenk Tosun.
