Celtic boost in their hopes of signing talented midfielder

Celtic have been handed a big boost in their pursuit of Hibernian midfielder John McGinn, as the club have revealed they could listen to offers for the 23-year-old Scotland international.

The former St Mirren man has caught the eyes with his performances following Hibs’ promotion this term, with many comparing him to Hoops legend Scott Brown.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is also a fan of McGinn and is keen on having him as the club prepare for life without their ageing captain.

With EPL side West Ham also keen, this could be the best time for the Scottish giants to land their man.

Hibs CEO Leeann Dempster has admitted that the club could consider bids for their star, recently claiming: “There will, of course, be a lot of speculation around John regarding other clubs being interested in him.

“There was an offer in the August transfer window and John has gone from strength to strength in the subsequent period.

“It’s inevitable that when you have good people either working for you, or playing at a club, that there is going to be interest.

“It is always about weighing up our league position and what is best for us in the short and medium-term. We don’t know what the next month will bring, we don’t have a crystal ball we might get tested. If we are tested then we will carefully consider it.”

McGinn’s wide range of passing has been excellent this term, with many tipping him to succeed Brown in the national team set up.

The youngster pulled the strings in midfield during a recent friendly between Scotland and Netherlands, and with 3 league assists and goals to his name this term, McGinn could prove to be a worthy addition to the Celtic midfield going forward.v
