Newcastle duo reportedly told to leave in January

Jack Colback and Jamie Sterry have reportedly been informed that they are free to leave Newcastle this month.

Magpies manager Rafa Benitez will look to make additions to this side this month as he looks to steer them clear of the relegation zone.

However with the club in a troubled financial situation, they will likely have to make sales in order to bring in new recruits.

Colback appears to be surplus to requirements at the club, having not played since the final day of last season and he has been linked with a move to Championship strugglers Sunderland whom he previously played for between 2008 and 2014.

Sterry meanwhile is also expected to link up with a Championship club in a deal which will run till the end of the season.

The 22-year old also appears to be surplus to requirements at the club having not featured since the EFL Cup game against Nottingham Forest in August.
