Everton star insists his side are improving under Allardyce

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has said that his side are improving under manager Sam Allardyce despite having suffered back to back defeats under the veteran tactician.

Allardyce had gone several games undefeated as Toffees boss after replacing Ronald Koeman as manager before leading the club to a 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday and followed that up with a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United on New Years Day.

The losses leaves the Merseysiders in ninth place on the Premier League standings and they are three points adrift of Leicester City who are one position above. The Toffees next face off against Merseyside rivals Liverpool in the FA Cup on Friday.

While speaking about Allardyce, Pickford said: “He [Allardyce] has brought a good structure and balance to the side.

“I feel like we know where we stand with him. He is all about the basics and that is where we need to start. If we get the basics right, then we can go and play our football.

“The past couple of games have been a bit sloppy from us. We do enough with the gaffer on the training ground two or three days before the game. We do attack vs defence, which is about blocking shots and stopping crosses.”
