Virgil Van Dijk reveals why he joined Liverpool

Virgil Van Dijk has revealed how the “Klopp factor” persuaded him to join Liverpool this month over runaway League leaders Manchester City.

The Dutch international completed a £75 million move to Liverpool on Monday and in doing so decided against joining City, who have already virtually won the Premier League title this season.

Despite having had the chance to join Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, Van Dijk believes that Klopp has an X-factor and is on the verge of achieving positive things as manager of the Reds.

Klopp became manager of the Reds in 2015 and has yet to win a major trophy with the club. Van Dijk however is confident that that will change.

“Since he’s come in, I think he has made a lot of progress and I think it is only going to get better and better. Hopefully I can contribute to that as well,” he said of Klopp.

“Everybody from a Liverpool perspective knows how lively he is, how he can make players better and give them confidence. It just suits me as well.

“I think he can make me a better player and I am just looking forward to working with him. I think this is the right time for me to be here and to develop all sorts of aspects of my game.”
