Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given has spoken out about what he thinks that Newcastle’s chances are of luring Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge during the January transfer window.
Given said, “I think so, yeah. Why not? He’s not playing regularly at Liverpool. I’m sure Rafa knows lots about him with the Liverpool connections and that would be really good.”
The Magpies are looking to bolster their side during the January transfer window in order to boost their chances of avoiding relegation and Sturridge is said to be one of the players whom they are monitoring closely.
Sturridge has struggled to earn regular game time this season with Reds manager Jurgen Klopp opting to use Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah and he will likely be keen to leave Liverpool on loan in January as he looks to try and win a place in the England squad for the 2018 World Cup.
